The Annual Report of the Director of Public Health (DPH) is an independent assessment of the health of the people of our area, drawing attention to important issues.  This is the first such report since the PCT formally appointed their DPH in June 2002.

Residents of Somerset Coast are on the whole healthier, and live longer, than people elsewhere in the country.  There are areas of socioeconomic need in Bridgwater, around Minehead and Highbridge which will impact on health.  In addition we know of other pockets of need in rural areas which are typically more difficult to measure in the traditional measures of deprivation.
