What if we go over the target?
We will still pay £15 for each completed form up
to the end of March 2004. We may continue this arrangement,
but we'd want to review how it's gone.
Why does it rely on completed forms?
It's the only way we can prove to the Strategic
Health Authority and so to the Department of Health that our numbers
are accurate. We have a PCT-wide target of 671 people quit
after four weeks.
How can we simplify the forms - I'm busy enough as
it is?
The actual amount a doctor needs to fill in is
pretty small - everything else can be filled in either by the
patient or other staff. Even so, we're looking into having a
computerised form that will fill in a lot of the patient's details
automatically. We'll keep you posted.
INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE TARGETS
These have been set to achieve an overall number
of 671 quitters at four weeks for the PCT in 2003/04. We've
assumed a 50% success rate (ie half of those referred or given
advice will remain stopped at four weeks). The targets are
then based on the practice population size (over 15 year olds).
